❃ Saint Bernards are one of the oldest dog breeds, originating in the Swiss Alps over 1000 years ago. They were originally bred as rescue dogs, and are now known for their gentle temperament and large size.
❃ They can weigh up to 200 pounds and are about 30 inches tall. They have a short, smooth coat that is reddish-brown in color and can have white markings on the chest, toes and tip of the tail.
❃ These adorable dogs are often depicted with small barrels of brandy around their necks! This is an homage to the monks of Saint Bernard Hospice, who would give injured travelers a drink of brandy before sending them on their way :)
